"Lock the Superman" was brought to us by the great imagination of one Mr. Yuki Hijiri clear back in 1967. As far as I can tell, Locke lives in a future world where time is no longer counted by years in A.D. but now in "Cosmic Years". The series has its own imaginary history of more than 1,300 years. Each story from this series gives us another piece of humanity's future history in space and beyond as it goes along.
I first met Locke when browsing through the anime section in the video store where I work. I came across a movie called "Space Warriors". It didn't have any kind of cover box so I didn't have a clue what it was about or what it looked like. So I skipped it the first few times and rented other things I thought would be better. I had no intention of really watching it, but for some reason, that title kept catching my eye every time. So one day, I finally decided to take it home and see what's up.
I watched the beginning of it with only mild interrest. The show looked okay, but nothing special. It was all about this pirate guy named Lord Leon and some personal quest for revenge he had against this other guy. So I'm like "okay, that's nice." But then all of a sudden the story stops and this theme song plays and this guy with green hair (who looks like Sage) appears on the screen. I'm like "What the heck?! Who is this guy?! Where'd he come from?!" Funny, the movie had my full attention after that and guess what? I loved it!
I, of course, watched it a few more times and then took it over to make Hatashi watch it a few more times with me. She still looks at me funny when I start singing the theme song, but what does she know?
After discovering my new found hero, I went on the net to see what I could find. Saddly, there wasn't much information out there. But I did find out enough. Locke started out as a comic series and since then, two movies and two OVAs have been made. ^
*********

So who exactly is the man this shrine is dedicated to? Locke is a powerful psychic who, as it seems, is practically invinsible. Many others in his time also happen to have psychic abilities as well. Yet he is set apart from them, not only by the mere quantity of his power but also by that fact that he is immortal. As wars wage and time travels on, Locke never changes his appearance as a young, green haired boy as history passes. How or why he is like this is never revealed in the series thus far. Some of Locke's other powers include: telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, healing, and also making his psyche into a spear and copying other people's matrix and transforming himself into another person (including a woman).
But despite all his powers Locke does his best to maintain a quiet and normal profile. What I like about him best is his modesty. He refuses to build himself up as anything more than a man--no matter how much praise he gets. Even as time passes and his name becomes legendary to all of outter space, there will be times when Locke will even refuse to admit that the legend is him.
As we grow to know Locke better, it becomes obvious that he possesses all these great powers against his will. In "Millenium of the Witch" (Lock the Superman is the name of the OAV) he see him living far out in the country on a sheep farm, trying his best to live a normal life. But as soon as trouble starts brewing, Locke gets pulled into it one way or another as he always does.
It seems with every story, Locke gets involved indirectly--often because someone comes begging him for help. He never wishes to fight anyone, but at the same time, his kind heart will not allow him to foresake the people and so comes as their reluctant savior. He comes when he is called; and in the meantime, is content to stand back and watch history grow and change as he stays the same.
Locke is often asked where he came from or how old he is. But his only reply is "I forget." And saddly, the series as left us, too, wondering these things for his creater has yet to relay this crucial information to us. In the oldest story in the series history, baby Locke was found by his foster parents crying near a traffic accident. But that hardly proves that was his begining as Locke sometimes turns himself into a baby to refresh his body, calling it "rebirth". So it is anyone's guess how long he had lived even before that.

I'm afriad there's not much more information I can give as I am still learning about him myself. For more of Locke's personal bio, go here for a far more detailed one hosted on Rei's Page.

Some really cool art here. This is a new style for Locke. He almost looks like Duo Maxwell with green hair at times. Good eye candy.
